About Tribeca Games Festival

Tribeca Games hosted the inaugural Tribeca Games Festival. Kicking off with a special concert by Mura Masa, this festival-within-a-festival examined industry trends and what’s next in the race to innovate the gaming world. The two-day event took you behind-the-scenes at some of the biggest releases of 2017, conversations with cultural leaders and games industry insiders and gave attendees exclusive access to game creators using art, storytelling and design to transform the medium.

The inaugural Tribeca Games Festival will kicked off with the New York premiere of Telltale Games’ first-ever crowd play of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Episode 1, and a concert headlined by British electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist Mura Masa. Fresh off a performance at Coachella, Mura Masa lit up the Tribeca Festival Hub with the sounds of the future.

Retro Active Breaking down each title piece by piece, exploring every element from art, design, and sound, take a look back at some of the best games released in 2016.

Jessica Brillhart

Jessica Brillhart is an American filmmaker and tech influencer. In 2009, she began at Google's Creative Lab, joining their VR team in 2015. Brillhart was the first person to field test the 16-camera Google Jump rig. She directed WORLD TOUR, the first VR film made with the Jump ecosystem.

Neil Burger


Filmmaker Neil Burger most recently directed Untouchable, starring Bryan Cranston, Kevin Hart, and Nicole Kidman. He also directed Showtime’s Billions, Divergent, Limitless, The Illusionist, The Lucky Ones, and his feature debut Interview with the Assassin. Burger resides in New York City with his family.

Michael Chu

Senior Game Designer

As senior game designer on Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch development team, Michael Chu has focused his energies on building a rich backstory for this new game universe. Chu began at Blizzard in 2000. He was an original quest designers for the World of Warcraft launch.

Ian Dallas

Ian Dallas is the creative director of Giant Sparrow, makers of The Unfinished Swan and What Remains of Edith Finch. He's interested in creating experiences that make the world a stranger place. Before he was a comedy writer (at the Onion and for TV). Next he'd like to be an animator.

Maureen Fan

Baobob Studios

Maureen is CEO and co-founder of Baobab Studios, a VR animation studio. The company's first film, Invasion!, is the first VR animation being adapted into a feature film. Her most recent collaboration, The Dam Keeper, was nominated for an Oscar® in 2015.

Game Designer

Tracy Fullerton is an award-winning experimental game designer and director of the Game Innovation Lab at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, where she holds the Electronic Arts Endowed Chair in Interactive Entertainment. Her game credits include Cloud, flOw, Darfur is Dying, and Walden, a game.

Alex Goldman is co-host of Reply All. His work has appeared on On the Media, 99% Invisible, Slate, and elsewhere.

Christopher Grant

Editor in Chief, Polygon

Chris Grant is the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Polygon. He's spoken about video games at MIT, Stanford, the Smithsonian, industry conferences, and has appeared on CNN, BBC, NPR, NBC and elsewhere discussing the art and industry of gaming.

Robin Hunicke


Robin Hunicke is a Game Designer and Co-Founder at Funomena​. ​She has been designing and making games for over 12 years (Journey, Boom Blox, MySims, TheSims2). An outspoken advocate for diversity in our industry, she helps organize Amplifying New Voices.

Geoff Keighley

Producer, The Game Awards

Geoff Keighley has spent over two decades in the gaming industry as a reporter, host and producer. He produces The Game Awards and hosts YouTube's first live original series, Live with YouTube Gaming. Next, he is producing the first-ever consumer programming at E3 2017.

Hideo Kojima

Hideo Kojima is a world-renowned game creator and auteur known for pushing the boundaries of the video game medium. Widely considered the father of the stealth genre, he is also credited with innovating both storytelling and cinematic presentation in video games at large.

Ken Levine is the co-founder, president and creative director of Ghost Story Games, formerly known as Irrational Games. He led the creation of the multiple game-of-the-year award-winning title BioShock and was the creative director on BioShock Infinite.

Jonathan Morin

Creative Director

Jonathan has been part of the Ubisoft Montreal family for over 15 years, where he has worked on multiple franchises. He was the Creative Director and main visionary behind the first Watch Dogs, and returned as Creative Director for Watch Dogs 2.

Winslow Porter

VR Director

Winslow Porter is a Brooklyn-based VR director and producer. A Tribeca Film Festival Transmedia Award winner, he has premiered at Sundance’s New Frontier.

Adi Robertson is a New York-based Senior Reporter at The Verge, where she covers policy, technology, and interactive entertainment.

Chelsea Stark

News Editor, Polygon

Chelsea Stark is Polygon's News Editor, where she oversees day-to-day news coverage and helps Polygon bring analysis to games conversations. Chelsea was previously at Mashable, where she grew the games section from just herself to a full team covering games, VR and esports.

Matt Thompson

Deputy Editor, The Atlantic

Matt Thompson is the deputy digital editor of The Atlantic, vice-chairman of the board of the Center for Public Integrity, and a co-founder of Spark Camp. He served as director of digital initiatives for NPR. There he oversaw creation of teams like Code Switch, and co-wrote the organization’s ethics handbook.

Sean Vanaman is the co-founder of Campo Santo, an independant video game studio in San Francisco.This year Campo Santo released Firewatch, which sold over a million copies. Vanaman was the writer and co-lead of 2012's GOTY The Walking Dead Season 1

John Watson

John Watson has been programming since he was six. After doing some work on the Hubble at NASA, he decided to apply his abilities to games. He’s worked on Star Wars Galaxies, The Old Republic, and others. He co-founded Stoic, the studio responsible for the Banner Saga series.

Kiki Wolfkill

Kiki Wolfkill heads up transmedia and entertainment at 343 Industries. There she was responsible for building the internal game team and shipping Halo 4. Kiki’s past credits include Project Gotham Racing, Forza Motorsport franchises, Fable, Crackdown, Gears of War, and Mass Effect.

Davey Wreden

Davey was the writer of The Stanley Parable and The Beginner's Guide, two video games that experiment in new forms of storytelling. Today he lives in Austin, TX with his cat Sprite.

Milica Zec

Film and VR Director

Milica Zec is a film and VR director. Her virtual reality directorial debut was a highlight of Sundance Film Festival's New Frontier and Cannes Film Festival’s NEXT program. Prior to that, Zec collaborated with the performance artist Marina Abramovic for nine years.
